Changes A-Comin’
March 11, 2007
I’m a plumber with leaky faucets. I’m not eating my own dogfood. You might have noticed that both this site and masuga.com are buit on WordPress, even though I’ve more or less abandoned using it.
In the coming months, I’ll be rebuilding masugadesign.com on a new CMS, as well as updating my portfolio. What? You thought I haven’t been working all these months? Not the case! I’ll have a number of things to add to my portfolio when I get around to fixing the issues I’m having under the hood.

I’m Curious… what is the name of the CMS?

It’s the only CMS I use anymore...the most powerful gorilla on the block, as far as I’m concerned. That would be the awe-inspiring ExpressionEngine. I’ve built or redone 6-7 sites with it recently and, in my opinion, it absolutely blows away Wordpress. Sort of nice that they just re-did their branding and their site right before SXSW this year. Check it out.
In fact, I’ve almost become an exclusively EE studio. I’ll be joining the EE Pro Network in the next couple months and any potential client that comes my way that has a project on which I can’t use EE is now being relegated to the farthest reaches of my lead times.

ExpressionEngine huh? Its not open source though. Dont’ like wordpress?

In my opinion, Wordpress does not hold a candle to EE. And yes, it IS open source. Commercial open source, and the cost of a license is minuscule in light of what EE can do as a content management system. The support through EE is phenomenal.
The last three sites I’ve built would have been near impossible in Wordpress without serious ‘hacking’ or really getting dirty in PHP. It is possible to build a whole site in EE without even SEEING any PHP. Worth the price of admission right there!
