Kevin Van Dam
Kevin VanDam, aka “KVD”, aka the “Tiger Woods” of bass fishing, and also the biggest money-winner in bass fishing history, had a small, completely static, stagnant website that was very rarely updated. We saw that as an opportunity. We put his site on ExpressionEngine, and ensured that his future visitors would have a sense of community, and plenty of updated content to look at.
Kevin’s site is now updated almost daily, and features video, an audio blog (where he calls in with a report from the road and his call is converted into an mp3 and posted), photo galleries, and forums where hundreds of members have signed up to share their love of bass fishing and respect for “KVD”.
There is also a very complex “Tour Tracker” page for each individual tour stop in which Kevin is competing. The goal was to rival ESPN in the amount of information available for a tour stop, and in a few places we succeeded in offering more info. Each Tour Tracker page contains the latest leaderboard with daily weigh-in amounts, a related photo gallery, history and notes for the event location, an area for related audio clips, and a blog outlining Kevin’s thoughts and news from each day of the competition.
Finally, in part due to the very friendly URL structure, someone looking for Kevin will have no trouble finding the site via a search engine.
