Grand Rapids Squash
I play a lot of squash and was looking for a way to keep track of a league so we didn’t have to rely on the local YMCA to set up a league for us. I found a great open-source script that did just that called Squash Ladder, written by Matt Evans. The problem was that Matt never really had time to devote to the CSS or the presentation, so I offered to help (by using my own club’s site as a testing ground).
I updated the old table-based layout to a much simpler CSS-based layout. I also removed a lot of extra tags and markup (known as “tag soup”) which brought the size of each page down considerably. I redesigned the tables to be easier to understand at a glance. I also added a “shoutbox” where logged-in members can add quick notes to one another regarding anything at all, rather than having to remember an email address (or fifteen…).
